Songbirds Music is proud to offer Music Together®, a program of weekly music and movement classes for infants to kindergarteners and the grownups who love them. Each 45-minute class includes songs, rhythmic rhymes, creative movement, and instrument play. These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences--developmentally appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers--regardless of their own musical ability. Our program uses music from many countries and cultures to expose children to different songs, rhythms, and languages. Come sing, dance, and play along with us!

MARINE CORPS COMMUNITY SERVICES – MCRD SAN DIEGO AND MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO INVITE LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE IN A BALL GOWN GIVEAWAY AND DIGITAL STORY PROJECT – “EVERY GOWN HAS A STORY”
San Diego , California . Marine Corps Community Services-MCRD San Diego, in partnership with Media Arts Center San Diego, invite local community members to participate in a ball gown giveaway and digital story project – “EVERY GOWN HAS A STORY.” Community members are asked to donate an evening gown, tell the story of a special time when the gown was worn, and then MCCS can provide a much needed military wife the opportunity to wear it at an upcoming military ball and/or holiday party. Give the gift of a ball gown and let that gown tell its story for years to come!
All gown donations can be brought directly to the Marine Corps Family Team Building #6 East at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego CA 92140. Hours and dates for drop-off are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday from October 5 through October 15th. When dropping-off the gown(s), community members can also tell their story and/or arrange to video tape the story of their gown at a later date with MCCS staff and MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego media artists. The donated gowns will be displayed at the annual Fashion Show Ball Gown Giveaway social hour and dinner event on October 16th for local military families.
Having held the ball gown giveaway for a few years now, MCRD’s MCCS began to see not only how these dresses are important for military spouses who might not be able to afford different gowns for the various special events held throughout the year; but that many of the community members donating the gowns, wanted to tell the story of the special time or event when they wore the gown. Thus the idea of partnering with Media Arts Center San Diego and its on-going Digital Story Station initiative.
Marry Young, MCCS Special Events Coordinator, states, “There are a lot of military spouses in the community that unable afford an evening gown,” Young continues, “This is a great opportunity for local community members to support these spouses and at the same time allow the story of the gown to live on.”
For more information on how to donate a gown, or make special arrangements or tell your gown’s story, please contact Marry Young, Special Events Coordinator - MCCS, youngma@usmc-mccs.org 619-725-6384.

WHO GIVES A SHEET? WE DO!:
San Diego Woman’s Club Partners with Father Joe’s Villages and Hosts Fundraiser to Benefit Homeless Women of San Diego.
San Diego. The Who Gives a Sheet? Fundraiser held on Saturday, August 8th, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the San Diego Woman’s Club, included great wine, plenty of cheese, and delicious chocolate as well as lives music. The fundraiser benefited homeless women who reside at St. Vincent de Paul Village, a temporary shelter for homeless women.
Many homeless women arriving at St. Vincent de Paul Village bring little more than the clothes on their backs, much less the linens needed for their living area and personal hygiene. With the constant rotation of residents it is difficult to keep the shelter stocked with bedding and towels.
The Evening Stars of the San Diego Woman’s Club decided to host a wine, chocolate, and cheese festival fundraiser to purchase these much needed items for the shelter. There was such a wonderful response from the community for this fundraiser that all of the beds within the dormitory received new sheets, pillows, towels, and blankets.

TWO GREAT WAYS TO HELP OUR SCHOOLS:
You may have noticed a small pink coupon on some products in your pantry which says "Box Top$ for Education" and wondered what they were all about. Well, those tiny coupons are worth 10c each to schools! Included in this newsletter is a list of the products carrying the Box Top$ for Education coupons. Please clip the coupons, bring them to the clubhouse and deposit them in the school bus on the counter in the lobby. We will be donating them to a San Diego City School. In these difficult economic times, this is truly a way to turn your trash into a school's treasure.
The Campbell's Soup Company has long offered school's the opportunity to receive school supplies in exchange for labels from their products. We can help provide school supplies for a local San Diego City School by saving the labels from Campbell's products. A list of the eligible products is included in this newsletter. Please bring the labels to the clubhouse and deposit them into the large "soup can" on the counter in the lobby.
